Fundamentals Jewelry Assignment
Create a pendant that uses complex negative spaces to create a non-objective design. Your image will be sawn out of a small 1”x1” piece of copper sheet metal. The surface will be coated with colored enamel 1. Design
2. Template Trace your design onto tracing paper with a pen. Cut out and glue to the metal. Trace around paper, on the metal, with a sharpie. 3. Saw Pierce a hole in the negative space and thread the saw blade through the hole. Attach the blade to the saw frame and begin to carefully saw out your design by following the template. You will receive a maximum of 12 saw blades. Once you’ve broken 5 blades you should talk to me so we can review the sawing process. Average number of sawblades to break is 4. Be sure the saw blade is very taut in the frame otherwise it will be wiggly and break when you saw. 4. File After all sawing is complete you must file all edges. Files work only on the PUSH stroke. Push the file down the entire length of the side you are smoothing out. Rubbing the file back on forth will only make the process take longer. Choose the right size and shape file for the job. 5. Sand After all filing has been approved sand your project. There are 3 different grit sandpapers you must use. 60 (brown) 40 (blue) 30 (green) 15 (orange) IN THIS ORDER!
