Small Still Life Painting
For this project you will create a small acrylic still life painting created using the method of the Old Dutch Masters called grisaille.
Begin with a high quality color print AND a black and white print of a very simple still life of fruits, vegetables or any food that is visually pleasing to view. (ie no casseroles)
Taking your own photos is always a good idea and you will earn a higher grade as long as they are high quality.
Remember that a still life is an arrangement of objects. Your subject may be accompanied by a bowl or glass etc.

Underpainting and Glazing
UNDERPAINTING-
An underpainting like this is called grisaille where the monochrome values are painted first with gray or neutral color like burnt umber or paynes gray.
This type of tonal painting will establish the values and 3 dimensional qualities before adding transparent layers of color.
GLAZING-
Glazing, also referred to as indirect painting, is a method of painting in overlapping layers of transparent colors. Mixing your paints with a glazing medium and painting many layers of transparent colors will give depth and a luminous quality to your painting.
